If you are part of an organisation that provides services, activities or facilities for anyone under the age of 18 years, you are invited to join a free online workshop to better understand how child safe principles and standards apply.

During the two-hour session you will learn about your legislative responsibilities and elements of child safe practice, along with practical ways to empower children and to create a child safe culture.

“A lot of our local organisations have both direct and indirect interaction with people that are under 18 years old but yet may not be aware of their legal responsibilities to implement the Child Safe Standards,” said Gaynor Atkin, Manager Community Partnerships, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“This training provides a great opportunity to help to clarify some of the key aspects of the current legislation and how to manage the risks, barriers and challenges of creating a child safe environment.

“It will also help to build confidence in responding to incidents, allegations or disclosures of child abuse,” said Ms Atkin.

The provision of training opportunities for local organisations and service providers to better understand and implement ‘child safe standards’ is an action in both the Mount Alexander Early Years Plan 2018-2021 and the recently adopted Mount Alexander Middle Years Plan 2020-2023.

Child Safe Fundamentals Training is presented by Child Wise as part of the Volunteer Training Calendar developed by Mount Alexander Shire Council and Volunteer Central Vic.

There are two free sessions to choose from.
