Mount Alexander Shire Council is excited to partner with local organisations to deliver a number community projects to build social connections in our community, as part of the Victorian Government funded Community Activation and Social Isolation (CASI) initiative.

The projects have been initiated by member organisations of the CASI Local Support Network and will offer a variety of cultural, artistic, social and wellbeing activities to address the impact of COVID-19 on the community.

Some of the projects being funded include the creation of a space for people to meet and share their craft activities, street musicians and roving performances to reactivate our towns, informal walks in Maldon to bring people together and the development of a reference card for community members to help those that need support with their mental wellbeing.

“It’s really impressive to see the breadth of projects being delivered to our community through the CASI Local Support Network,” said Melissa Fowler, Community Activation and Social Isolation Community Connector, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“It’s been such a wonderful experience to facilitate a group of organisations who are so dedicated to supporting our community and prioritising improving social connections,” said Ms Fowler.

“We know COVID-19 has had a huge impact on people’s health and wellbeing, in particular their social networks.

“We hope that these community projects will inspire people to get out and connect with others in our community once more as restrictions around social gatherings ease.” she said.

The projects are planned to be delivered over the next six months.
