Mount Alexander Shire Council is offering an apology to ratepayers who were affected by an error on their rate notice.

Mount Alexander Shire Council is offering an apology to ratepayers who recently received an erroneous rate notice.

Council’s Director Corporate and Community Services Lisa Knight said a small portion of ratepayers were advised that payment was overdue on their 2020/2021 Rate Notice.

“At this stage, we don’t know exactly how many ratepayers are affected, and are working with our software provider to work through and resolve the error,” said Ms Knight.

“We offer our sincere apologies for the inconvenience, and any stress or concern the error may have caused at this time.

“If you are worried your notice is incorrect, or would like to double-check the amount owing, please contact our Customer Service Team who can arrange to reissue your notice,” she said.

The Customer Service Team is available via phone on weekdays between 8.30am and 5.00pm on 5471 1700 or email info@mountalexander.vic.gov.au.

The due date for the first rate instalment has been extended to 14 October 2020.

Council can arrange a payment plan for anyone having difficulty paying their rates. It has also adopted a COVID-19 Financial Hardship Policy to help support local ratepayers, businesses or residents experiencing temporary hardship due to the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.
