The Castlemaine Visitor Information Centre (VIC) on Mostyn Street welcomes back visitors on weekends between 9.00am and 5.00pm, with plans to reopen the Maldon VIC in coming weeks. Staff are available to offer assistance by phone on 1800 171 888, seven days a week.

Get tested

Please stay home if you are unwell and get tested if you have any symptoms of coronavirus, no matter how mild. Make an appointment with your local GP or go to a nearby testing centre.

There is a drive-through COVID-19 screening clinic at CHIRP Community Health in Castlemaine. Testing is available by appointment for community members with symptoms of coronavirus, or who need mandatory testing before surgery. The clinic is open from 2.00pm to 4.30pm on Tuesday and Friday, and between 10.00am and 12.00noon on Sunday. Call CHIRP Community Health on 5479 1000 to make an appointment.

The clinic is operated by Castlemaine Health and CHIRP, with support from Council.

Help is here

October is Mental Health Month and staying connected can help improve your mental health. If you are feeling lonely or isolated due to COVID-19, support is just a phone call away thanks to the Victorian Government’s Community Activation and Social Isolation (CASI) initiative. Call the Coronavirus Hotline on 1800 675 398 and press option 3 to speak with a volunteer from the Australian Red Cross who can talk to you about your needs.

They can also put you in touch with a local community connector at Council who can organise extra social, emotional or practical support from a network of services and organisations in the community. You can also call Council’s COVID-19 support number on 1800 512 446 to access a local community connector direct.

If you, or someone you know, are feeling anxious or stressed, support is available. Contact Beyond Blue www.beyondblue.org.au 1300 22 4636; Kids Helpline www.kidshelpline.com.au 1800 55 1800; QLife www.qlife.org.au 1800 184 527 or Lifeline www.lifeline.org.au 13 11 14. Seniors Festival reimagined

Don't let COVID-19 stop you from enjoying the Reimagined Seniors Festival 2020. The festival has moved online, with a range of free broadcasts, music radio plays and more to choose from. Visit www.seniorsonline.vic.gov.au/festivalsandawards or request a program schedule in the post from Victorian Seniors Card on 1300 797 210.

Mask update

Thank you for continuing to wear a mask to help keep our community safe from the spread of COVID-19. In Victoria, everyone aged 12 years and over must wear a mask when outside the home, unless you have an exemption. The mask must be fitted, and cover the nose and mouth. Scarves, bandanas and face shields are no longer considered acceptable face coverings.
Free re-usable masks are available for vulnerable community members from our Customer Service Centre, CHIRP Community Health and other locations across the shire. For more information call our dedicated COVID-19 support service on 1800 512 446.

Free disposal of green waste

To help residents prepare their homes and properties for the fire danger period, Council is offering free green waste disposal to local residents and ratepayers for 17 days, including three weekends. Green waste can be disposed of for free at the Castlemaine and Maldon transfer stations between 24 October and 9 November.

Green waste includes garden waste such as grass, sticks and branches (less than 10cm diameter). It must be free of contaminants such as rubbish and declared noxious weeds. Proof of residency is required upon entry.
