Our Customer Service Centre is open for limited face-to-face services including general queries, pet registrations and payments. Staff are continuing to respond to other customer service requests and technical queries such as planning and building enquiries by phone, email and online.

The Civic Centre on Lyttleton Street in Castlemaine is open from 8.30am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. Enter via the ramp on Lloyd Street.

Our Visitor Information Centres (VICs) in Castlemaine and Maldon are open on weekends between 9.00am and 5.00pm. Staff can also provide assistance by phone on 1800 171 888, seven days a week.

Landowners with a backyard pool or spa must register it with Council by 1 November, or face a fine of up to $1,652. The Victorian Government introduced the need for backyard pools to be registered with Council to ensure pool fences provide a safe barrier to keep children from drowning. Council has sent several reminder letters to pool and spa owners. The registration fees are $31.80 (relocatable spa/pool), and $79 (permanent spa/pool). Works will soon begin to install tactile markers along four main intersections in Castlemaine CBD. The markers will improve accessibility for all pedestrians, particularly those living with visual impairment. Council prioritised the works based on advice and a review by Guide Dogs Australia, along with the feedback from the access and inclusion survey carried out in 2018. Works are planned to start later this month and will take about two weeks, weather permitting.

Works are underway to replace the bridge on Eagles Road in Harcourt to provide safer access for pedestrians and motorists. The new bridge will have a footpath on the eastern side, extended guardrails and crash terminals to prevent vehicles entering the creek.

The bridge will be closed during the project, with a detour via Market Street, Reservoir Road and McIvor Road. The new bridge is expected to be open by Christmas, weather permitting.

If you are enrolled to vote in the Mount Alexander Shire Council election you have until 6.00pm on Friday 23 October to return your completed ballot material. Completed ballot material must be posted before final local mail clearance times. You can also hand-deliver your ballot material by the 6.00pm deadline to the Election Manager at the election office located at Ray Bradfield Room, Forest Street, Castlemaine. Extended hours for voters to hand-deliver their completed ballot material apply from 9.00am to 8.00pm on Thursday 22 October and 9.00am to 6.00pm on Friday 23 October. If you haven’t received your ballot pack please call the election office immediately on 1300 128 921 to arrange a replacement. Voting is compulsory. State-enrolled voters who don’t vote may be fined.

To help residents prepare their homes and properties for the fire danger period, Council is offering free green waste disposal to local residents and ratepayers for 17 days, including three weekends. Dispose of green waste for free at the Castlemaine and Maldon transfer stations between 24 October and 9 November.

Green waste includes garden waste such as grass, sticks and branches (less than 10cm diameter). It must be free of contaminants such as rubbish and declared noxious weeds. Proof of residency is required upon entry.
