Young people aged 12 to 25 are encouraged to share what’s important to them by taking part in our Youth Advisory Group’s survey.

The Mount Alexander Shire Council Youth Advisory Group is comprised of local young people aged between 12 and 25 years that help Council engage with young people, and provide input into Council decisions, plans and strategies.

“We want to hear about how to make our shire a better place to live for young people,” said Alina Graeve, Youth Advisory Group member.

“We’ve developed a short, 10 minute survey to find out what is good about living in our shire, but also, what are the main issues and challenges. We’re also interested to know young people’s biggest concerns around coronavirus.

“Everyone who completes a survey has the opportunity to go into a prize draw to win a $50 voucher,” she said.

The results of the survey will be considered as part of the development of future plans and activities.

“Every four years, our Youth Advisory Group consult with their peers to identify issues and solutions that are relevant to young people in our shire,” said Shannon Lacy, Youth Development Officer, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“In 2016, this process highlighted the need for better support around youth mental health and wellbeing in the shire, and this led to Council committing to a Youth Mental Health First Aid program,” said Ms Lacy.

“Annually we now train around 200 young people, along with parents and teachers, on how to support a young person with a mental health issue,” she said.

Young people can complete the survey online at www.surveymonkey.com/r/MASCyouthsurvey.

Printed copies are available at the Civic Centre and Castlemaine Library.

The survey closes on Sunday 13 December. The prize will be drawn at the Civic Centre on Wednesday 16 December. The winner of the $50 voucher will announced in the Midland Express on Tuesday 22 December.
