Coronavirus (COVID-19) update

Victoria has moved to the Last Step of COVID-19 restrictions. There are no restrictions on reasons to leave home. Households can receive up to 15 visitors per day and up to 50 people can publicly gather outdoors. Patron numbers at most venues and facilities have increased. COVIDSafe requirements, caps and density limits apply. From 30 November, workplaces still working from home can return up to a quarter of the workforce per site (excluding the Victorian Public Service).

Face masks are still mandatory indoors, unless an exemption applies. Face masks are no longer required outdoors unless physical distancing cannot be maintained. You must still carry a mask at all times. Please follow precautions to help us stay safe and stay open. Get tested if you show any symptoms of COVID-19.

For more information call the Coronavirus Hotline on 1800 675 398 or visit www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus.

Congratulations to Mayor Elect

Mount Alexander Shire Council has agreed that Councillor Tony Cordy will be the Mayor Elect and Councillor Bill Maltby will be Deputy Mayor Elect, pending the formal election at the Council Meeting on Tuesday 24 November. Cr Cordy has represented Calder Ward since 2014. Cr Maltby was elected to the Castlemaine Ward in this year’s Council election. He was a Councillor for the City of Castlemaine from 1984 to 1995, serving a term as Mayor in 1986. Congratulations to Councillors Cordy and Maltby.

Youth survey now open

Young people aged 12 to 25 are encouraged to complete a survey to inform Council of the topics that are important to them. The short survey also asks participants about the good aspects of living in our shire, along with the main challenges.
Complete the survey online at www.surveymonkey.com/r/MASCyouthsurvey or collect a printed copy from the Civic Centre or Castlemaine Library. The survey closes on Sunday 13 December. Complete the survey to go into a prize draw to win a $50 voucher. The prize will be drawn at the Civic Centre on Wednesday 16 December. Go Local First

Council is encouraging the community to buy and shop local to help support local businesses and provide a much needed boost to economic recovery in the shire. Small businesses contribute to around a third of our economic activity and are an important provider of local jobs. There are many ways you can support local businesses, producers, makers and traders. Look out for Go Local First stories in local news and social media or share your own using the #golocalfirst #mountalexander hashtags. If you are a local business and would like to participate contact Eva Parkin, Economic Development Officer, on 5471 1805.

Nominate now for Australia Day Awards

Who would you like to recognise for their contribution to our community? Council is calling for nominations for the 2021 Mount Alexander Shire Australia Day Awards. We have simplified the nomination process for the civic awards this year. Nominations close at 5.00pm on Friday 4 December. For more information visit www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/AustraliaDay.

Cool off at the pool

Volunteer at our VIC

Share your local knowledge and offer a friendly face to visitors who come to our region. Along with good communication and customer service skills, you will need to commit to a minimum of one shift (four hours) each week at the VIC and attend monthly training opportunities with our great team of community members. The Castlemaine VIC is open every day (except for Christmas Day) from 9.00am to 5.00pm, with Maldon VIC open on weekends at this stage.
