Mount Alexander Shire Council is revitalising the Norwood Hill Recreation Reserve and is looking for community feedback on a draft landscape design for the reserve.

The draft landscape plan is informed by feedback received from community consultation undertaken in May 2020, along with discussions with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and Dja Dja Wurrung and other First Nations Community Elders.

“This recreation reserve is well used by the community and during community consultation earlier in the year we received many great ideas about ways it could be improved,” said Cath Olive, Council’s Manager Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities.

“Some of the improvement ideas included accessible paths, an increase in gardens and trees, more seating and picnic areas, and signage with local indigenous cultural heritage information,” said Ms Olive.

“There was a clear message that children were keen to see more opportunities for fun, such as a big swing and spinning features, along with equipment for teens such as parkour or skate elements.

“There were requests from the community for an upgrade to the surface of the existing courts with the addition of a rebound wall, basketball and netball hoops along with four square lines.”

Along with these ideas the draft landscape design includes nature play elements and improved integration between the reserve and the Lawrence Street road reserve. The sandpit will be retained under the plan.

“We are excited to share this next stage of the designs with the community and are looking for feedback by everyone who uses the space or would like to have a say,” said Ms Olive.

Council’s Active Communities Team and landscape architects from Pollen will be available to meet with the community at a COVIDSafe event in December. An online survey is also available for people to provide feedback by Friday 18 December.
