Mount Alexander Shire Council has teamed up with Victoria Police to bring some Christmas cheer to residents this year, through a Christmas bauble decorating competition for children in the Shire.

Local preschool and primary school-aged children were invited to participate through decorating their own Christmas bauble, which are currently on display on the community Christmas tree in the Maxi IGA complex until 28 December 2020.

Mount Alexander Shire Council Youth Development Officer Shannon Lacy, Bluelight Castlemaine representative Peter Lukaitis, and Goldfields Police Local Area Commander, Acting Inspector Sharon Matheson judged the baubles at the Castlemaine Police Station on Monday 14 December.

Ms Lacy thanked and congratulated everyone who participated in the project.

“It’s great to be working with Castlemaine Police to bring a little Christmas cheer to the community,” said Ms Lacy.

“It’s been a tough year for many children and families, and we want them to know that the police are one of the many organisations that are here to support them.”

The Christmas bauble decorating project supports one of the actions of the Mount Alexander Middle Years Plan 2020-2023, aiming to improve the relationship between the local police and community, and promote a better understanding of how we can collaboratively increase community safety.

“This will be a chance for our students to send off a particularly difficult year, and for us, as a community, to come back together to prepare to welcome a new year that is going to be better than the last,” said Elizabeth Wilkie, Senior Constable, Victoria Police.

Prizes of $20 gift vouchers from Stoneman’s Bookroom and Extremity Street and Surf are awarded to the winning entries, which are as follows:
