Still got Christmas shopping to do? Preparing for a get together? When it comes to buying presents, decorations, meals and treats local businesses in Mount Alexander Shire have got you covered.

The shire has an amazing range of shops and markets to meet your needs. There’s also many ways to tap into local makers, growers, producers and caterers so you can access products or produce direct.

After the year we’ve had it’s important to remember to shop where your dollars matter. And if you’re looking for somewhere to celebrate, don’t look past the wonderful range of cafes, bars, pubs, wineries and restaurants to relax with family and friends.

Here are five reasons to shop local:

1. Create local jobs - Local businesses employ local people. Go local first to help boost the local economy and create more jobs, particularly for young people.

2. Support your community – When you buy local you contribute directly to your community. Many businesses support local community groups, clubs and causes, while a town filled with vibrant shops is appealing for locals and visitors. Go local first and invest your money into towns and villages across the shire.

3. Feel good – It feels good to find all you need in the shire but even better to receive quality customer service and build long-lasting relationships. Go local first for a positive and personalised shopping experience.

4. Reduce your carbon footprint - Locally owned businesses generally make more local purchases which require less transportation. It also means you spend less time travelling and more time celebrating. Go local first to reduce your environmental impact.

5. Give local – Many businesses in our shire are owned by locals. Go local first to help these businesses bounce back from a tough year and put Christmas lunch on the table. You might even help their dreams come true.

Go Local First for dining and shopping this festive season and help our communities thrive.
