Mount Alexander Shire Council is pleased to announce that 17 local community groups will share in more than $50,000 in grants to deliver community projects and initiatives throughout the shire.

“Even during a pandemic our community groups have provided innovative ideas for a diverse range of projects and initiatives,” said Lisa Knight, Council’s Director Corporate and Community Services.

“We are so pleased to offer funding through this second round of community grants for 2020,” said Ms Knight.

This round of funding will support projects including the development of a regenerative farming training program by Mount Alexander Sustainability Group, a website and monthly newsletter for Castlemaine Seed Library, and catering equipment for Maldon Golf Club.

Other projects include a series of workshops delivered by Mirawara aiming to connect the community to the Indigenous culture of our region, a celebratory video created by Connecting Country to promote the incredible work of our Landcare groups, and lightweight and stackable table and chairs for easier accessibility at Harcourt Bowls Club.

“The grant applications we received were thoughtful and considered, and based around themes relating to sustainability, community connection, inclusiveness and building resilience,” said Ms Knight.

“It’s exciting to see that this funding round attracted many community groups with projects relating to health and wellbeing and the environment. The Arts and Culture sector were also well represented,” she said.

“I encourage all groups to consider applying for the next round of funding, which opens early next year.”

“Community grants are a great way for Council to support local organisations and volunteers, and to help deliver exciting projects and activities in partnerships with the community,” said Lisa Knight.

A list of funded projects is available on the Community Grants section of Council’s website www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/CommunityGrants. Council has emailed all applicants regarding their submission.

The next round of Community Grants opens on 25 January 2021. For more information contact the Community Partnerships team on 5471 1700 or grants@mountalexander.vic.gov.au.
