Mount Alexander Shire Council is pleased to announce that 15 community groups will share in $49,990 in grants to deliver community projects and initiatives throughout the shire.

“This was an exciting grant round as we received a bumper number of applications for projects and initiatives that will benefit our community for years to come,” said Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Social Equity and Inclusion Officer, Sarah Gradie.

“It has been heartening to see the enthusiasm and energy of applicants who are responding to our community’s needs, especially with the setbacks of the past two years”, said Ms Gradie.

This round of funding will support projects to secure the future of the Chewton Chat, launch Mount Alexander Women’s Sports Club, repair the Maldon Croquet lawn and for new equipment for Taradale Tennis Club.

Other projects funded include the Newstead Community Garden’s poultry project which plans to incorporate chickens into the garden to increase biodiversity and food production, attract new membership and increase self-sufficiency and for upgrading accessibility of the Welshman’s Reef Water Sports Club’s all access/disability bathroom.

Grant applications were diverse and representative of the vast number of community groups that operate across the shire. Many projects were focused on boosting community connections, accessibility and health and wellbeing initiatives.

“Community grants are a great way for Council to support local organisations and volunteers, and to help deliver exciting projects and activities in partnerships with the community,” said Sarah Gradie.

We would like to thank all who applied to this program and congratulate those who secured Council’s funding support.

A list of funded projects is available on the Community Grants section of Council’s website

The next round of Community Grants opens on 24 January 2022. Information sessions will be held in Castlemaine and Maldon. For more information contact the Community Partnerships team on 5471 1700 or
