Mount Alexander Shire Council will re-launch the Connect Mount Alexander website on Thursday 20 May at the Castlemaine Library, to coincide with National Volunteer Week (17-23 May).

During the COVID-19 pandemic last year the Connect Mount Alexander platform was repurposed as a Virtual Emergency Relief Centre to provide important information, resources and support networks to the community.

Now, as well as retaining information about COVID-19, it’s returning to its roots as a key site for community groups and organisations to self-promote and gain new members and volunteers.

A new interactive home page, featuring a design by Castlemaine illustrator Trace Balla, gives the site a fresh new look and community feel. Local community ‘Events’ can be listed on the events page, and people can still check for emergency management information including supports and services available during COVID-19 on the site.

“We are very excited to showcase the work of the renowned local illustrator Trace Balla on the Connect Mount Alexander website,” said Sharna Cropley, Acting Manager, Community Partnerships, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“This online platform is a great place for community groups to highlight the work they do,” said Ms Cropley.

“Along with promoting the work and activities of community groups, Connect Mount Alexander is a great way to recruit new members or volunteers, and find out more about other local organisations.”

To promote the ‘new look’ site, Council is offering an incentive for new groups to register and for existing groups to check in and ensure their information is up to date.

Every community group, club or organisation that has logged in by 5.00pm on Friday 18 June will go into the draw to win a $250 voucher for a local business service.

“For people looking to volunteer in their local community, or groups looking for more tools and resources to manage volunteers, Connect Mount Alexander is a great place to start,” said Ms Cropley.

“You can easily see which groups are seeking volunteers and learn whether they are the right fit for you.”

Registration or listing your organisation of club takes less than 10 minutes. Visit www.connectmountalexander.com.au to register.

For more information contact Scott Gillman, Community Partnerships Officer, on 5471 1840 or email connect@mountalexander.vic.gov.au.

The $250 prize will be drawn on Friday 25 June at the Civic Centre, Castlemaine. The results of the prize draw will be published on the Connect Mount Alexander website, and the winning group notified by email.
