Mount Alexander Shire Council is pleased to announce that 26 event organisers will share in $50,000 in grants to deliver community events and initiatives throughout the shire.

Council’s Manager Communications and Customer Services, Ed Butler said there are some fantastic projects to look forward to.

“This round of grants provided some exciting evidence that the community is gearing up for a return to pre-pandemic levels of events,” said Mr Butler.

“We’re very proud to be funding a diverse range of projects this round including the much-loved community event, the Castlemaine Billy Cart Challenge, which brings together a small army of volunteers together with some incredibly inventive billy cart enthusiasts,” said Mr Butler.

“There’s a strong focus in this round on preserving our history, with many of the shire’s townships represented,” said Mr Butler.

Other events to receive funding include the Castlemaine Jazz Festival, which showcases more than 40 musical acts over three days, and a special community gathering to commemorate and celebrate the anniversary of the 1851 Monster Meeting of Diggers, to be held on-site at the Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park.

“We’re really pleased to be able to support so many local events, with the majority of successful applicants receiving funding through the program for the first time.”

A list of funded projects is available on the Grants section of Council’s website www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/CommunityGrants. Council has emailed all applicants regarding their submission.

Event grant organisers seeking financial support from Council are encouraged to apply for a Quick Response Event Grant of up to $500. Events running to 30 June 2021 are eligible to apply.

The next round of Events Grants will open in July 2021.
