Mount Alexander Shire Council is pleased to announce that 17 local community groups will share in more than $40,000 in grants to deliver a range of community projects and initiatives as part of its 2021 Community Grants Program - Round 1.

“It’s heartening to see many passionate community groups put their energy into producing a wonderful range of innovative and diverse projects, despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic last year,” said Lisa Knight, Director Corporate and Community Services, Mount Alexander Shire Council

“It makes us very proud to be able to support 17 fantastic initiatives in the first round of funding this year to help our community bounce back into action,” said Ms Knight.

“These projects will benefit our community in many ways from improving access to recreational activities, communication about events and projects, training, volunteer recruitment, landscaping and more.”

The first round of funding for 2021 will support projects including radio training opportunities for people with disabilities at MAINfm, and Get into Golf for Women at Castlemaine Golf Club.

Other projects include the design and building of a website for the Elphinstone Progress Association to celebrate all things Elphinstone, the purchase of bowls for community use at Maldon Bowling Club and the incorporation and launch of Mt Alexander Cycling.

“The grant applications we received were creative and thoughtful, and focused on building community connections, health and wellbeing and inclusiveness,” said Ms Knight.

“We encourage anyone who is involved with a community group or has a great idea to consider applying in the next round of grants which open in July.”

“Community grants are a great way for Council to support local organisations, volunteers and activities, and deliver exciting projects in partnerships with the community,” said Ms Knight.

A list of funded projects is available on the Community Grants section of Council’s website www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/CommunityGrants. All applicants have been contacted regarding their submission.

The next round of Community Grants opens on Monday 19 July 2021. For more information contact the Community Partnerships Team on 5471 1700 or email grants@mountalexander.vic.gov.au.

Update: 24 May 2021
