Battle of the Bands 2017

Registrations for the FReeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands are now open!

The Battle of the Bands is an annual music competition that gives young people around Victoria a chance to perform and gain exposure in a safe and supportive environment.

The competition is open to bands, soloists and duos in any style of music including acoustic acts, hip hop and electronic, originals or covers.

If you make the grand final, you could win recording time and resources to support your music career.

The local heat is organised by Council’s FReeZA Committee Eight Metre Speaker, and will be held on Friday 24 August at the Theatre Royal.

To be eligible to enter, artists must be aged between 12 and 25 years and live, work or play in Mount Alexander Shire. At least half of the members in each band must be aged under 21 years.

Application forms can be collected and returned at Theatre Royal, Castlemaine Library, Castlemaine Secondary College reception, Mount Alexander Shire Civic Centre, and Mondo Lounge Youth Space on a Friday afternoon.

Mondo Lounge Earth Skills Excursion

Mondo Lounge invites young people to take part in an outdoor an earth skills excursion with Mirawara in Muckleford on Saturday 14 July as part of its holiday program.

Mirawara specialises in outdoor experiences such as rock climbing, nature skills, Indigenous cultural events and bushwalking.

Participants will have the opportunity to attend a one day taster of the renowned Earth Skills Workshop facilitated by Mirawara with Claire Dunn and the Firestarter’s.

The full day workshop will focus on Fire by Friction and will include bush games, a hearty evening meal around the camp fire and Indigenous stories by Rebecca Phillips.

The excursion is part of Council’s Mondo Lounge youth activities open to people aged 12 to 25 years. It’s a great chance to rug up, have fun and learn new things while enjoying some time outdoors.

The excursion is free of charge, including transport from Mondo Lounge. Bookings are essential. Get in fast as spaces are limited.

Where: Meet the bus at Mondo Lounge, 30 Templeton St, Castlemaine.
The bus will return participants to Mondo Lounge at 7.00pm.
Cost: Free.

Mondo Lounge extended holiday hours!

Mondo Lounge will be open for extended hours this July Holidays!

Pop in for a hot chocolate, hang out with some mates or get involved in our workshops and activities!

Friday 6 July- Movie and popcorn night, 12-4pm

Thursday 12 July- Cooking workshop with local chef, Annie Irving! 3-7pm

No bookings required.

Mondo Lounge Youth Space

Mondo Lounge

Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Mondo Lounge is a hangout space that offers free activities, workshops and training opportunities for young people aged 12–25 years.

Mondo Lounge is a space to meet with friends after school in a safe, supervised and supportive environment.

Mondo Lounge is located at Continuing Education on Templeton Street, Castlemaine, and is open from 3.30pm to 6.00pm every Friday afternoon during the school term.
