Community Christmas celebration grants 2026

Christmas celebration grants are available to community groups in Mount Alexander Shire.

Mount Alexander Shire Council is once again offering Community Christmas Celebration Grants to help towns across the shire celebrate the festive season. Applications open Monday 10 August and close Sunday 30 August 2026.

Funds can be put towards outdoor decorations, community events, Santa visits and other celebrations.

Who can apply, and for what

  • Small towns - including Chewton, Campbells Creek, Guildford, Taradale, Elphinstone, Faraday, Fryerstown, Baringhup, Sutton Grange, Metcalfe and Muckleford - can apply for up to $500 to fund one community event or decoration initiative per town.
  • Harcourt, Maldon and Newstead community groups can apply for a share of a $2,000 pool per town, which may fund several smaller initiatives.
  • Castlemaine community groups can apply for a share of a $4,000 pool, which may also fund multiple smaller initiatives.

2025 Christmas Grant acquittal

Did you receive a previous Council grant? After your event has been a roaring success, you must complete an online acquittal.

  1. Go to the SmartyGrants Website and log in with the username and password you used to submit the application
  2. Click on “My submissions” at the top of the page
  3. Here you will see your submission and the associated forms open and waiting for you to complete
