Preparing your application

Understand the role

Please ensure you have read through the position description, and understand the key responsibilities and requirements of the role.

Cover letter

To support your application, please prepare a cover letter (no more than two pages) outlining your interest and why you are the best candidate for the role.

The below points are a guide to the type of information to be included:

  • How your experience, knowledge and personal qualities would enable you to perform the duties and meet the technical and behavioural capabilities of the role.
  • Any specific examples or achievements that demonstrate your ability to perform the role.
  • Relevant qualifications held.
  • How you meet any eligibility requirements.

Management or specialist roles may be an exception, where addressing a specific key selection criteria may be required. Please refer to individual position advertisements.

Resume

Ensure your professional resume is up to date, and listed referees are current and relevant.

Key selection criteria

Some positions require specific selection criteria to be addressed. This will be specified in the position advertisement.

It is expected that responses requiring an example or ‘demonstrated experience’ follow the STAR method:

  • Action
  • Result
