Mostyn street wombat crossing

Mostyn Street Castlemaine

This project delivers an upgraded safe pedestrian crossing at Mostyn Street which will improve pedestrian safety.

Project background

As a part of Mount Alexander Shire Councils commitment to maintaining and upgrading our infrastructure to ensure accessibility and safety throughout the shire, Mostyn Street pedestrian crossing has been identified to upgrade with a raised pedestrian crossing (wombat crossing).

This project delivers an upgraded safe pedestrian crossing at Mostyn Street which will improve pedestrian safety by creating designated safe pedestrian crossing points that are illuminated to provide increased visibility.

The proposed works include the replacement of existing pedestrian crossing with a raised pedestrian crossing (wombat crossing).

Where are we now?

Council are in the final stages of the design phase and anticipate advertising the tender for the construction works shortly.

What happens next?

Construction works are expected to commence in late July or early August 2025. Letters will be sent to residents and businesses prior to the commencement of construction works to provide relevant information and updates.

During the construction, there may be disruption to some of the parking adjacent to the crossing and pedestrian access, however the access to the shops/businesses will not be impacted during the works.

Project funding

This project is funded through Regional Development Victoria (RDV) and Council has received funding of $80,000 for the project.
