Mount Alexander Shire Council is proud to launch the 2025 Mount Alexander Business Awards.

The awards spotlight innovation, resilience and impact across our local economy.

In alignment with Council’s Economic Development Strategy, the awards feature refreshed categories that reflect six foundational goals, each designed to shape a thriving, inclusive and sustainable community.

Categories include:

  • Outstanding Workplace – For businesses fostering inclusive and supportive work cultures.
  • Sustainability Hero – Recognising leadership in environmental sustainability and circular economy practices.
  • NextGen Champion – Celebrating businesses creating opportunities for young people.
  • Local Food Excellence – Honouring those strengthening our local food systems.
  • Accessibility Champion – For businesses creating inclusive and accessible experiences.
  • Community Impact – Recognising businesses making a genuine difference through connection and care.
  • Innovation and Technology – Celebrating smart solutions that benefit business, community or planet.
  • People’s Choice – Awarded to the business with the most nominations!

Big4 Castlemaine won the 2023 Innovative Service or Product award, and Claire Height, owner of Big4 Castlemaine reflects on her experience of the awards:

“It has been a great honour to be the recipient of several Mt Alexander Shire business awards,” said Claire.

“The awards provide an important recognition of the time, effort and resources so many small businesses dedicate to delivering great products and services. The recognition helps make the hard work worthwhile.

“Most importantly for me, the awards have had a big impact on the BIG4 Castlemaine team.

“Simply being nominated is an acknowledgement that business success is a team effort.

“The awards night is always special and we leave feeling energised and looking forward to creating new opportunities and successes for the business.”

Nominations open on Tuesday 26 August and close on Sunday 21 September.

Businesses nominated by the community or themselves will then be able to complete the entry form, where they can provide more information on their business.

Finalists will be selected by an independent judging panel.

The awards ceremony this year will be held on Wednesday 19 November at Boomtown Winery & Bistro, Castlemaine.
