Council funds 15 community groups through Event Grants program

The Ravens Theatre Company, the Aussie Band T-Shirt World Record Attempt and Town Folk Festival are among 15 community groups to receive funding in the latest round of Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Event Grants program.
The funding delivers events across the shire that foster connection and community.
One of the funded initiatives is the Newstead Young Writers Festival, a much‑loved biennial event that supports and inspires young storytellers across Central Victoria. It brings emerging writers together with experienced creators for a fun, hands‑on program of workshops in writing, drawing, comics, poetry and more, helping local talent shine.
Another supported event is the biennial Castlemaine and District Festival of Gardens, which attracts visitors from across the region to explore a wide variety of country and historic gardens, verge, sculpture and town gardens.
Other successful events include the Maldon in Winter Festival, Castlemaine Rotary Truck Show, the Yarny Day Out fibre arts market and the Resonance String Orchestra annual concert.
Mount Alexander Shire Mayor Toby Heydon said Council was proud to support such a diverse range of community‑led events.
“The 15 events funded this round include a great mix of new initiatives and much‑loved favourites, all contributing to the vibrant events calendar our shire is known for,” Cr Heydon said.
“These events play an important role in strengthening our cultural and creative community, offering memorable experiences for locals while also attracting visitors to the region.
“Congratulations to all 15 community groups, and best wishes as they bring these events to life. We know the time, energy and dedication involved.”
