Mount Alexander Shire Council is progressing works to identify a safe, long‑term solution for the damaged chimney at the Maldon Museum.

Council is working closely with a structural engineer and Heritage Victoria to determine the most appropriate solution. Because of the building’s heritage status, any permanent solution will require detailed planning, approval and a permit from Heritage Victoria. This process is complex and is expected to take several months.

In the meantime, temporary safety measures remain in place, including the closure of the museum and additional safety fencing, to ensure public safety while this work progresses.

We understand this continues to be disappointing for visitors and especially for the dedicated volunteers who support the museum. We are committed to keeping the community informed as we move toward an approved, long‑term repair solution.
