Castlemaine Railway Precinct Masterplan

A masterplan is a dynamic long-term planning document that provides a conceptual layout to guide future growth and development. Master planning is about making the connection between buildings, social settings, and their surrounding environments.

The masterplan for Castlemaine Railway Precinct 2023 is a long-term, high-level document that will:

  • guide land activation and development in and around the area
  • include a road map to implementation
  • provide advice on next steps for Council, the State Government and potential developers and tenants.

Council adopted the Masterplan in its December 2023 meeting.

Who owns and leases the precinct?

The precinct is owned by VicTrack which owns all transport land, assets and infrastructure in Victoria. VicTrack works to protect and grow the value of the portfolio to support a thriving transport system and make travel and living better for all Victorians.

Several organisations lease areas within the Precinct, including the Castlemaine Girl Guides, Lion's Club, the Victorian Goldfields Railway, the Castlemaine State Festival, Castlemaine Circus and the Mill precinct.
