Climate action is in everything we do
Goal 1 of Council’s Climate Change Strategy is that climate action is in everything that we do. This means that we are working to ensure that right across Council, our initiatives, projects, policies, and services contribute to our climate response, we consistently integrate climate messages into communications arising from all departments, and that we seek innovative ways to increase resourcing for climate action.
Recent achievements towards this goal are listed below:
- Council adopted an updated Asset Plan and Policy incorporating climate change impacts within the asset management requirements.
- Ongoing discussions with Emergency Recovery Victoria regarding housing and climate resilience and partnering with others to seek new funding opportunities.
- Sustainability Newsletter distributed by Council on bi-monthly basis.
- ‘Climate change-makers’ campaign commenced in June 25 to externally promote businesses in our shire working on climate action and sustainability.
- Grant submission made to Community Energy Upgrade Fund for electrification of the Town Hall to convert all gas appliances to electric and to install a more effective heating system to support greater use, especially as an emergency relief centre.
- Multiple staff participated in interviews by La Trobe University Associate Professor on impact of Climate Change on Older Adults.
- Climate Change Leadership Group continues to meet regularly providing input to review and development of yearly action plans and Council’s annual zero-net emissions response.
- Achieved zero-net emissions for Council’s operational greenhouse gas emissions in 2025.
