Existing James Creek Bridge structure.

This project will replace the James Creek Bridge on Myrtle Creek Road, Redesdale, a critical piece of infrastructure which was closed in early June 202. The scope of work includes the demolition of the temporary ford structure and the construction of a new concrete bridge at the same location.

The new structure will feature a 100-year design life, be engineered to accommodate current vehicle load standards and include installation of modern safety barriers and guardrails along it's length and immediate approaches.

Where are we now?

The original timber bridge structure was closed and demolished in July 2025 due to numerous structural failures having reached end of life. The timber bridge was replaced with a temporary ford/floodway to maintain access for residents. The ford/floodway will now be replaced with a concrete bridge to provide safe all weather access over James Creek.

Funded by Mount Alexander Shire Council and the Federal Government’s Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program, Mount Alexander Shire Council has engaged Murray Constructions Pty Ltd for the construction of James Creek Bridge in Redesdale.

What happens next?

These works are scheduled to commence from Monday 14th September 2026. The duration of the project is approximately three months and is anticipated to be completed by the end of November 2026. The Myrtle Creek Road will be closed for the duration of project. Working Hours will be from 7.00am to 6.00pm (Monday-Friday) and 8.00am to 1.00pm (Saturday).

We acknowledge the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience and understanding as we build the bridge to ensure accessibility throughout the shire.
