The footpath construction project along Gaffney and Reckleben Streets, Castlemaine has delivered a new, safer and more accessible pathway connection in Castlemaine.
The works provide a continuous 1.5 m wide route between Gaffney and Reckleben Streets, improving pedestrian access for residents, visitors and school children.
The project involved the construction of both asphalt pathway and gravel trail sections from Bowden Street through to Domain Drive, creating a consistent link through this important local corridor.
Works were completed and the pathway opened to the community in September 2023.
Project improvements
The new footpath and trail now provide a range of community benefits, such as:
- Improved safety by separating pedestrians from vehicle traffic along key sections
- Better connectivity between Bowden Street, Heather Drive, Chapmans Road and Domain Drive
- A consistent 1.5 m wide path suitable for a variety of users and mobility needs
- Greater support for walking and active transport within the local area
This project forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance Castlemaine’s walking network and create safer, more connected neighbourhoods.
