Mostyn Street wombat crossing

As a part of Mount Alexander Shire Councils commitment to maintaining and upgrading our infrastructure to ensure accessibility and safety throughout the shire, Mostyn Street pedestrian crossing has been identified to upgrade with a raised pedestrian crossing (wombat crossing).

This project delivers an upgraded safe pedestrian crossing at Mostyn Street which will improve pedestrian safety by creating designated safe pedestrian crossing points that are illuminated to provide increased visibility.

The proposed works include the replacement of existing pedestrian crossing with a raised pedestrian crossing (wombat crossing).

Works Summary

• Construction is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, with an estimated duration of two weeks
• Week 1 will focus on installing new street lighting underground conduits and poles
• Week 2 will involve upgrading the raised pedestrian crossing scope of works
• Temporary disruptions to parking near the crossing may occur during the works
• Alternative pedestrian routes will be provided, and access to your business/property will not be impacted during the project
• Night works will be carried out toward the end of the project to complete asphalt resurfacing. This is planned for the final 1-2 days of the works around 15 November 2025
• Traffic management measures will be in place, with the plan intended that the road remain open to vehicles. During night works there would be some impact on traffic lane closure at the crossing

This project is funded through Regional Development Victoria (RDV) and Council has received funding of $80,000 for the project.
