Connecting Country, Town Folk Festival, and Barkers Creek Landcare and Wildlife Group are some of the community groups to receive funding in the latest round of Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Event Grants program.
Council has awarded 14 groups with funding to deliver events across the shire that foster connection and community.
One of the funded events is a series of reuse and repair workshops facilitated by The Good Op Shop. These are open to community members looking to gain skills in repairing and upskilling to save items from landfill.
Another event is a National Tree Day Celebration by Connecting Country, an organisation that encourages people to give back to the environment by planting one million trees across Australia. Barkers Creek Landcare have also received funding for their Ecological Restoration Plan and documentary launch.
Other events include Gather Harcourt’s New Year’s Eve celebration, the Castlemaine Chorale Eisteddfod, a celebration of Newstead Community Centre’s 30th birthday, Muckleford Community Centre’s Winter Warmer, and the Resonance String Orchestra’s annual concert.
Pre-existing events like the Rotary Truck Show, Maldon Folk Festival, Castlemaine and District Show, Town Folk Festival, Run the Maine, and Maldon in Winter festival have also been awarded funding, helping them to continue to run.
Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Mayor, Cr Rosie Annear, said that Council is proud to support local events through the grants program.
“It’s so exciting to receive applications to support such a broad range of events in our shire,” said Mayor Annear.
“The 14 events that have received funding for next year are a great mix of existing and new events, and will all be wonderful additions to our shire’s already packed calendar.
“I know they’ll bring people together from near and far to visit our region, connect with others, experience new things, and take part in a range of fun events.
“Congratulations to all the successful recipients in this round of funding. It’s going to be great to see these events come to life.”
