Mount Alexander Shire Council remains committed to providing residents with the highest quality care in home support services as the Federal Government introduces significant aged care reforms.

The transition to the federal Support at Home Program officially commenced on 1 November 2025. The reforms will bring changes to how services are funded for some people.

Mount Alexander Shire Mayor Rosie Annear is encouraging residents to reach out early to learn about how the changes will impact them so they can make informed decisions.

“The changes may be confusing and potentially overwhelming. We are here to support and provide guidance to you as you need. Please reach out to the Community Wellbeing team if you have questions,” said Mayor Annear.

“They way aged care is delivered is changing, but our focus in Mount Alexander Shire remains exactly the same: ensuring our residents can live independently, safely and with dignity in their own homes.”

The Commonwealth Government’s new aged care system introduces different funding arrangements for Home Care Package clients, including potential client contribution requirements depending on individual circumstances.

The Commonwealth Home Support Program continues to remain exactly as it is currently operating and may transition across in July 2027.

“We are all in this together as we transition to the new way of doing Aged Care,” said Director of Healthy Communities, Lisa Knight.

“Mount Alexander Shire Council has been your provider for over 30 years, which reinforces our commitment to providing aged care services, including personal care, domestic assistance, meals, allied health, transport and social support.”
