Mount Alexander Shire Council has proudly received the Veterans Specialisation from My Aged Care, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to delivering inclusive and tailored aged care services.

This recognition highlights Council’s dedication to supporting veterans in the community, ensuring their unique needs are met with compassion and professionalism.

The Veterans Specialisation is part of My Aged Care’s verification process, which acknowledges organisations that go above and beyond to support specific groups within the aged care system.

“This is a significant achievement and highlights the importance we place on supporting our veterans, particularly those receiving services through our programs,” said Lisa Knight, Director of Healthy Communities.

“It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff who have consistently prioritised the wellbeing of veterans.”

Over the past two years, Council has partnered with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to deliver Veteran Home Care services.

Initially focused within the shire, the program has since expanded to include veterans in the Central Goldfields Shire. Following a recent audit, the Department of Veteran’s Affairs has extended Council’s contract for another two years – further validating the quality and impact of its services.

“This extension, along with the Veterans Specialisation, is a reward for the commitment our team has shown,” Ms Knight added.

“It also comes at a time when our staff are working hard to prepare for the transition to the new Support at Home Program, aligned with the updated Aged Care Act launching on 1 November 2025.”

Council now holds three My Aged Care Specialisations: LGBTQIA+, Veterans, and Rural and Remote – a rare and commendable achievement.
