Council thanks volunteers for their hard work and generosity

National Volunteer Week is coming up this month and Mount Alexander Shire Council would like to thank volunteers across the shire for the incredible work they do in our community.
Volunteers welcome visitors to the region, drive buses, serve meals, keep senior residents’ company, care for our natural environment, and so much more.
National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering and is held from Monday 19 May to Sunday 25 May.
It’s an opportunity to acknowledge the people who give their time, experience and talents freely to the community, and Council would like to do the same.
Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Mayor, Councillor Rosie Annear, said that it’s important to acknowledge and appreciate all that volunteers do for our community.
“They run our Visitor Information Centres, host community lunches, support vulnerable residents, organise sporting activities, host local events, look after the shire’s facilities, and much more,” said Mayor Annear.
“There’s always so much to see and do here in our shire, and volunteers are a huge part of the reason why.
“They’re generosity of time and energy has a profound impact on the lives of others, and contributes to what makes our shire such a great place.
“For those people who do volunteer, please know that the work you do is seen, valued, and deeply appreciated.
“I highly encourage anyone who’s thinking about volunteering to investigate the opportunities out there. There something for everybody, no matter what your interests, abilities or experiences are.
“You’ll be giving back, connecting with others, and filling your own cup at the same time. It’s a win-win”, said Mayor Annear.
