Council to begin annual tree works in June
Published on 13 May 2024
Mount Alexander Shire Council will begin its annual tree maintenance program in June.
The program aims to improve public safety and the appearance of treed areas throughout Mount Alexander Shire.
Works will take place on street trees, and in and around several parks and reserves and include:
- the removal of poor growing and hazardous trees
- the pruning of hazardous branches
- the maintenance of appropriate clearances from powerlines, roads, footpaths, street lights and signs.
The areas identified for maintenance are based on a cyclic assessment by Council’s Tree Management Officer to maintain tree amenity, health and safety.
All tree works will be carried out by qualified arborists in line with Australian Standards.
Every effort will be made to retain tree shape and character. Trees on private properties are not included on this program.
Priority areas scheduled for June and July include:
- Castlemaine CBD
- Barker Street, Castlemaine (CBD only)
- Forest Street, Castlemaine
- Kennedy Street, Castlemaine.
Tree works in other areas across the shire will take place following the completion of the Castlemaine works.
The works are expected to have minimal disruption to the community, however traffic management plans may be in place while works are underway.
