Applications are now open for the next round of Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Community Grants.

The Community Grants program supports local groups and individuals who are developing new and emerging community projects.

The last round of Community Grants saw 16 groups benefit from the program including WINC – Older Women in Cohousing Inc., Maldon Garden Club and the Newstead Bowls Club.

Some examples of projects include the establishment of a women’s cricket team for North Castlemaine Cricket Club, the purchase of a defibrillator for the Fryerstown School building (and local community) and equipping the Harcourt Bowling Club for the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme

Mayor Toby Heydon said: “Our Community Grants program is one of the ways Council invests directly in the creativity, resilience and strength of our community.

“These grants help turn great ideas into real projects that bring us together, strengthen connections, support wellbeing and celebrate what’s unique about life in our shire.

“Whether you’re starting something new or growing an established initiative, I encourage everyone with a vision for community benefit to apply.

“I’m excited to see what projects come forward this year.”
