Mount Alexander Shire Council is inviting community feedback on the draft Property Leasing and Licensing Policy.

The policy establishes an operational framework for the allocation and administration of leases and licences of Council owned and managed properties.

It’s guided by principles of fairness, equity, consistency and transparency, while complying with legislation and Council’s risk management framework.

The policy was adopted in 2011 and now requires minor legislative changes, giving Council the opportunity to review the entire policy.

The updated draft policy will focus on the following guiding principles:

  • Alignment with Council Plan 2025-2029
  • Community benefit
  • Multi-use of properties
  • Fairness and equity
  • Transparency and accountability
  • Environmental impacts
  • Risk management
  • Access

Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Manager Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities, Karen Evennett, said that consultation with the community is an important step in drafting the policy.

“Council is committed to leasing and licensing properties in a fair, consistent and transparent manner,” said Ms Evennett.

“That’s why our draft Property Leasing and Licensing Policy aligns with our Council Plan.

“It puts community at the centre of our leasing and licensing framework.

“I encourage residents to have a read through the draft policy and tell us what you think.

“Your feedback is incredibly valuable.”
