Micro and Small Business Day is a new initiative designed to equip small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs with new skills, industry connections and inspiration from local success stories.

It’s a one-day event that’s jam-packed with panels, workshops, networking opportunities and a business expo, offering practical experiences and advice as well as direct conversations with industry professionals.

The program has a wide range of events for different business types and includes events specific to businesses in our local area such as creative businesses, agriculture, tourism and sustainability practices.

Artists, makers and creative business owners who are aspiring to make more income can benefit from a special program that is run in partnership with Creative Victoria and Business Victoria.

“Together with our partners at Creative Victoria and Business Victoria we’re really pleased to have opportunity for creatives to develop their business skills,” said Merryn Tinkler, Manager Economy and Culture at Mount Alexander Shire Council.

Panellist Kir Larwill, Creative Director of Artpuff, said: “We work with artists to exhibit and sell their work.

It is our business to support their businesses – through expanding audiences, creating connections between artists, or working to develop and build their arts practice.

We're looking forward to being part of a panel that has creative entrepreneurship at its heart.”

The series of events about sustainability and the circular economy will help businesses save money, reduce waste, and unlock new opportunities.

Council’s Climate Change Coordinator, Brendan Garrett expressed the importance of the events for businesses.

“These events are a great opportunity to learn, share, and network with others interested in making their businesses more sustainable,” said Mr Garrett.

“Small local businesses are so important to the collective health and sustainability of our communities, don’t forget to book your tickets.”

The day will also include a dedicated Farmers Forum, providing a space to acknowledge and respond to the challenges facing our local farming community.

Mount Alexander Shire Councillor, Tony Cordy said the event is an invaluable opportunity to share, learn and network.

“It will be a day to come together to spark real, practical and supportive conversation regarding agriculture and our local food systems,” said Cr Cordy.

"The day is open to everyone. Whether you are a small or large farmer, a winery, a grower, work in the food system or agriculture and farming, there’s something for you.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to get practical advice from people who have expertise and real working farm experience.”
