Mount Alexander Shire Council in partnership with the Castlemaine Mail is inviting the community to celebrate local agriculture and farming by getting involved in a photo competition.

The competition, Growing Mount Alexander, aims to showcase our shire’s fresh produce, animals and crops in the lead-up to National Agriculture Day.

The winning photographer will receive a prize and the 12 highest voted photographs will be displayed in the Castlemaine Market Building and celebrated across Council’s social media platforms.

Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Acting Manager Economy and Culture, Daniel Bone, said that the competition is a creative way to acknowledge our shire’s long tradition of agriculture and farming and our beautiful and varied landscape.

“National Agriculture Day is coming up this November and what better way to showcase and learn about our farming sector than with a collection of photos.

“We’re inviting everyone in the community to get involved, whether you’re a farmer, food producer, market stall holder or backyard grower, this is your chance to showcase your local produce and the vital work you do.

“We want to see photos of cute animals, fresh produce, crops and wonderful agricultural scenes– get creative!”

The photos will also be used to promote the 2025 Farmers Forum which will launch in Mount Alexander Shire in March 2025.

The photos will be hosted on Shape Mount Alexander, Council’s online engagement platform, where residents can vote for their favourite photo.
