Mount Alexander Shire Council is advising the community of a temporary speed reduction on Harmony Way, Harcourt, following damage incurred during the January fires.

An 80km/h speed limit will be in effect starting on Monday 30 March for a length of approximately 1km (north and south of Gaaschs Road), where roadside guardrail infrastructure was damaged.

This reduced limit is a precautionary safety measure and will remain in effect until the guardrail is repaired.

Council is currently preparing a disaster funding claim to replace the damaged guardrail. Due to funding and construction timelines, repairs may take several months to complete.

Mount Alexander Shire Mayor Toby Heydon said the temporary change is essential for keeping road users safe.

“We know this section of Harmony Way is well-travelled, and the temporary speed reduction is about ensuring everyone’s safety while we work through the process of replacing the damaged guardrail,” Mayor Heydon said.

“We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we navigate disaster funding requirements and plan for these repairs.”

Once the guardrail has been restored, the speed limit will return to 100km/h. Council will continue to keep the community informed as the project progresses.
