Summer Preparedness: Parent Information Sessions

These free sessions are designed for parents and carers to provide calm, practical, evidence-based guidance to help families prepare for the upcoming summer heatwaves and bushfire season.

Sessions will be delivered by Kate Templer, clinical psychologist living in Castlemaine with experience working with children, young people and their families, with separate supervised children’s activities and light catering.

Delivered by Castlemaine Community House and Dhelkaya Health.

Where: Harcourt Valley Primary School, 3 Wilkinson Street
When: Wednesday 4 November, 5.00pm - 7:00pm

Where: Chewton Primary School, 1 Hunter Street
When: Wednesday 11 November, 6.00pm - 8:00pm

Where: Campbells Creek Primary School, 127 Main Road
When: Wednesday 18 November, 6.00pm - 8:00pm

Where: Castlemaine Community House. 30 Templeton Street, Castlemaine
When: Friday 20th November 10:30am - 12:30pm

The sessions will have two streams:

A. Parent Information Session

  • Preparing for bushfire season with children
  • Talking about emergencies without causing fear
  • Supporting children through anxiety and sensory triggers
  • Family planning and practical preparedness
  • Local support and resources

B. Children’s Creative Play Space

Children can be present at the event. They can participate in:

  • Creative play stations
  • Art, building, sensory-friendly activities
  • Quiet zones
  • Supervised indoor or outdoor play (weather permitting)

Delivered by Castlemaine Community House and Dhelkaya Health.
