We offer a specific rate relief to acknowledge and reward landowners who have made a long-term commitment to conservation on their property.
Trust for Nature Conservation Covenant Rebate
A 100% rate rebate for land permanently protected under a Trust for Nature Conservation Covenant.
This rebate acknowledges the significant long-term commitment landowners make to conserving biodiversity on their land.
How to apply
If your property has a Trust for Nature Covenant, please contact Council's Rates team using the rates enquiry form or calling 03 5471 1700 to ensure this rebate is applied to your rates notice. You may need to provide documentation of your covenant.

We offer a range of grants that can support environmental projects on private land, particularly when delivered by community groups or in partnership.
Community Grants
The Community Grants program supports local groups and individuals who are developing new and emerging community projects.
Two funding streams are available: small grants, which are up to $3,000 and a partnership grants, which is up to $10,000.

These programs offer significant support and resources that can lead to cost savings and improved environmental outcomes for your property.
Healthy Landscapes Regenerative Agriculture program
Delivered in partnership with the North Central Catchment Management Authority (NCCMA) and other councils, this program supports land managers in Mount Alexander Shire.
It offers:
- Free on-farm advice – Advice to improve grazing, soil health, biodiversity and waterway health. For properties over two hectares.
- Webinars, workshops, and field days – Educational opportunities for sustainable land management.
- Holistic Grazing Management short course – To enhance skills and knowledge for livestock management.

Grow Towards Zero program
This project, in partnership with the NCCMA, encourages large-scale revegetation works on properties of five hectares or more (or combined neighbouring properties).
It helps attract wildlife, reduce erosion, enhance soil health, and improve water quality.
